About me

Before I started my career as an apprentice blacksmith in the Zuiderzee Museum, a large open air museum in Holland, I finished my University education and received a Masters degree in Medieval history. After a few months as apprentice I took my place as one of the regular blacksmiths. I moved to England and after some years working in an office I went to the Herefordshire college of Technology where I did a full year course in Blacksmithing. I finished that year as best of my class. I now live and work in the Netherlands. My wife, Barbara, is a great help to me, not just as a sounding board but also in her capacity as an archaeologist. My work varies greatly: historical reconstructions like medieval cooking equipment and tools but also modern design work, for instance gates and shop interiors. Serial work is not a problem.
